David Voss is a bluegrass mandolinist currently living and working in New York. He has performed actively in the bluegrass scene on Long Island as a member of the Deep Roots Ensemble, directed by Taylor Ackley, and he has worked with mandolin legend Buddy Merriam, a collaborator and close friend of Bill Monroe, the creator of bluegrass. In addition to his mandolin work, David has also performed as a vocalist and pianist with the Deep Roots Ensemble. His recording work in all of these capacities can be heard on Hard Tellin’, released by the Deep Roots Ensemble in 2020. He can also be heard playing piano and singing on Songs from the Bitterroot, the debut album of the Deep Roots Ensemble, released in 2018.

David earned his Masters of Arts in Composition at Stony Brook University, where he first began playing with Taylor Ackley and the Deep Roots Ensemble, and earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Theory/Composition at Lawrence University.
